Australia Vaping Reforms 2024
Updated 18 August 2024
Nicotine Pouches available for import for Australian customers
Australia is introducing vaping reforms throughout the 2024 year.
The only products we are currently able to ship to Australia are nicotine pouches which are still legally allowed to be imported (with a nicotine prescription) under the Personal Importation Scheme – see below for details.
Also see below for more information on how you can now legally obtain vape products in Australia.
Refer to our FAQ section for answers to some of the most common questions our customers have been asking. Also refer to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)’s website.
1 March 2024 – ban on the personal importation of vape products
From 1 March 2024 the importation of all vape products under the Personal Importation Scheme was banned. Australian customers can no longer import any vape products purchased directly from overseas suppliers like Premium Vape, even with a nicotine prescription.
Nicotine Pouches are still allowed under the Personal Importation Scheme
Nicotine Pouches (also known as SNUS) are a great way to aid your smokefree journey and are currently able to be imported under the TGA Personal Import Scheme as long as you have a doctor’s nicotine prescription for SNUS.
Nicotine Pouches are an excellent choice for those who want to enjoy nicotine without the health risks associated with smoking or chewing tobacco. Unlike traditional tobacco products, nicotine pouches contain no tobacco leaf, making them a safer option that doesn’t produce any smoke, smell, or staining.

FAQ
Unfortunately not. As of 1 March 2024 you cannot order ANY vape products directly from overseas, even if you have a prescription.
You can still order nicotine pouches however your prescription must specify nicotine pouches. You can’t use your vape prescription for pouches.
There are a couple of options for uploading your prescription:
At checkout:
Your prescription can be uploaded at checkout. The first time you go to check out with us you’ll be asked to confirm you have a doctor’s prescription and also asked to upload a copy of it in digital form (use pdf, jpg, or png file format).
Your account dashboard:
Go to the Prescription tab under My Account (you will need to be logged in) where you’ll see you can upload a file. You can also view your current and past prescription file uploads.
Please note: the contact details (including your email address) on the prescription must match your Premium Vape account details.
Please note: your prescription must be specifically for nicotine pouches, a prescription for vaping products can not be used to import nicotine pouches.
Once your prescription is loaded we’ll automatically include the most recent file for all future orders (until it expires). We’ll supply a digital copy of it to DHL, along with the other shipping documents, before they collect your parcel. This ensures the parcel will be efficiently cleared at the Australian border. You can view your current prescription and upload a new file from your account dashboard at any time.
As of 1 March 2024, the importation of vape products under the Personal Importation Scheme was banned (even if the importer has a nicotine prescription for vaping products).
No. The disposables import ban came in on 1 January but from 1 March 2024 the ban includes the personal importation of ALL vape products.
The Personal Importation Scheme is what used to allow Australian vapers with a nicotine prescription to order from overseas retailers like us. From 1 March 2024 the Personal Importation Scheme ended for vape products. Nicotine pouches are still legal under the Personal Importation Scheme.
Since 1 March 2024 the legal supply of vape products is via pharmacy only.
Vaping substances containing nicotine may only be supplied by pharmacies with a prescription. Vaping devices may be supplied without a prescription but can only be supplied by pharmacies.
Flavours are limited to tobacco, mint and menthol only with further restrictions, including lower nicotine strength limits, coming into effect over the year. These form part of new licencing and permit regulations for importers.
Make noise! You should be angry at this disregard for your adult right to smoking alternatives. Evidence-based policy should balance the needs of both adult vapers and youth. It is important that your government representatives understand what this ban means for Australian ex-smokers who have done the right thing and secured a nicotine prescription for smoking cessation.
Tell your federal MP what these changes will mean for you. There is an easy to follow process here: https://www.legalisevaping.com.au/email-your-mp
Also join and follow ASACA, the Australian Smokefree Alternatives Consumer Association.
International travellers arriving in Australia will be allowed to carry a small quantity of vapes for their treatment or the treatment of someone travelling with them under their care.
“From 1 March 2024 … the importation of all vapes under the personal importation scheme will end. Patients will no longer be able to order any vapes, including reusable vapes, directly from overseas, even if they have a prescription.”
